EXPLORING THE NOTION OF SELF
Dineo Seshee Bopape was born in 1981 in South Africa. She started studying painting and sculpture in Durban, and graduated from De Ateliers in Amsterdam in 2007 to then complete a Masters of Fine Arts at Colmbia University, New York.
Her work is multidisciplinary, yet very united as a whole: video, drawing, painting and performance are all combined in dense, chaotic and brightly coloured installations to engage the viewer and convey a powerful political and social message. The notion of self is a particularly important one for the artist, which she explores through themes such as gender, race, sex and psychology.
