A NEW LOOK ON TRADITION
Born in 1965 in St. Petersburg, Olga Kisseleva studied painting for eight years in the ex-USSR. Now living in Paris and working with Daniel Buren at the Institut des Hautes Etudes in Paris, her main focus is video, photography, and performance. Her extensive use of space makes for radical artworks, both experimental and thought-provoking, questioning conventions, gender, politics and History. However, her academic training deeply influenced her work. In one of her most famous photographic series, she combines 20th century History and academic traditions in subversive still lifes that challenge the viewer’s perception of forms and symbols. Whatever the means, her work as a whole provokes, questions and experiments, in a way that cannot be ignored.
