American recording artist, dancer, actress, and fashion model Ciara was born in Austin, Texas but spent much of her childhood travelling around the world as her dad was in the United States Army. She believes this has helped her in her career, but it was Destiny Child and Michael Jackson who really inspired her to make music.
As a teenager, she first tasted success writing the song Got Me Waiting for American Idol III winner Fantasia Barrino’s debut album. After graduating from high school, the Atlanta-based artist exploded on the scene in 2004 with her ubiquitous single Goodies, establishing Ciara as a musical force with her silky voice, no-nonsense attitude, and fluid dance moves. At her first appearance at the 48th Grammy Awards, Ciara received four nominations and won "Best Short Form Music Video" with Missy Elliott for Lose Control.
Having mastered the music world, Ciara made her film debut in 2006 in the MTV Films Production All You’ve Got before releasing her multiple platinum second studio album, Ciara: The Evolution. She won the award for "World's Best Selling Female R&B Artist" at the 2007 World Music Awards and was honored as Billboard's "2008 Woman of the Year" because of her success in the music industry. Her successful third studio album Fantasy Ride (2009) featured the worldwide hit Love Sex Magic with Justin Timberlake.
Additionally, Ciara is a rising model -- a natural progression cemented by her appearance in the June/July 2010 French edition of Vogue. “I love to mix and merge the worlds of fashion and music because I am very passionate about both,” says Ciara.
Her fourth studio album set to be released on Dec 14 Basic Instinct is a landmark record for an artist who has hit a comfortable creative stride. “I’m really running with my ‘basic instinct’ -- the first feeling. I’m even giving more of myself, too, because I’m really private. Over the years, my music has been my voice. With Basic Instinct, I wanted to give more.”
