Attention, canonical European teenager knowledge required. Do you remember Poupette, Vic Beretton’s unconventional great-grandmother in the 1982 French Coming-of-age comedy “La Boum”? If Poupette had to describe Parisian electro pop duo One-Two she’d say that Séverin and Frédéric were the natural sons of Johnny Borell and Damon Albarn – and that would not only describe their looks quite accurately but also their music.
One-Two are one of the favourites of the blossoming French indie community that is currently spawning charming DIY acts including One-Two mate Soko.
Live on stage and in their videos there are no limits to One-Two’s exuberant joie de vivre. Where the regular continental European indie person would rather glue their Wallabees on the floor than risk being caught trying some daring dance moves, One-Two have no inhibitions in working themselves through the whole A to Z of rock posing – from air guitar via handclapping to microphone swinging. On their MySpace page with the refreshingly unsubtle tagline “One for the Money, Two for the show” One-Two pose in front of a very phallus-like (or is it just us?) Eiffel Tower shaking hands as if they’d want to compliment themselves on blowing out every single French cliché faster than critics can say “Oh la la”.
The duos’s second album “The Story of Bob Star“ comes out in March 2008. Renowned French dance/pop producer Julien Delfaud (Phoenix, Hermann Düne, Cazals) and the band have produced the record together. “The Story of Bob Star“ is a concept album/ pop opera that tells the story of fictional character Bob Star in ten songs. The ordinary life of an ordinary guy, stories of desire and betrayal.
“Love Again“, the band’s debut album and the brilliant singles “Oh Yeah Alright” and “O-Hot Brain” were released in spring 2006 and received a warm welcome from fans and critics in Europe and the United States. One-Two have played with Hard-Fi, The Rapture (by special request of The Rapture themselves), Love Is All, Justice, Jack Peñate, Babyshambles, Bloc Party and Maxïmo Park.
