Since its foundation in 1765, Maison Hennessy has always had a strong connection with water, not the least of which is its geographical location on the banks of the Charente, a vital artery on which the company's commercial success throughout the world is based. As well as being vital for life and essential for the flowering of the vines from which brandy is produced, water brings out all the aromas of Hennessy cognac. Hennessy's oenologists have laboured tirelessly to achieve the perfect marriage between water and Fine de Cognac. The company 5.5 Designers has worked hard to create items whose design focuses exclusively on drinking cognac with water. The designs convey a sustainability message that reflects Maison Hennessy's commitment to environmental protection – the company has had a strict environmental management policy for nearly fifteen years. The exhibition H2O, Hennessy et l'eau explores these facets through archive pieces and contemporary photographs presented in three spaces in the form of bubbles, symbolising the various states of water (solid, liquid and gas). For a greater understanding of Maison Hennessy's links with water, the photographer Antoine Bagot exhibits pale, washed-out photos and works approaching still life which give viewers a new vision of the company's water protection policy. A soundtrack arranged by Marc-Antoine Beldent adds a further dimension to the exhibition.
