Hennessy Artistry presents The Art of Blending at Killjoy

  • WHEN

Hennessy took over Killjoy in Vancouver’s trendy Yaletown district in November for a memorable evening of music and mix drinks. Although it was a slightly chilly evening by Vancouver’s standards, the slightly rustic charm of the bar’s exposed cedar beams provided a warm and inviting atmosphere for guests to kick back and enjoy an evening of entertainment from Vancouver-based artists Sonreal, Alex Maher and DJ Hedspin.

To get the evening up and running, Alex Maher hit the stage with his mesmerizing performance that can only described as a complex blend of jazz, rock, and funk, with a little beat-boxing and a lot of soul thrown in for good measure. Alex’s past jazz studies and 5-6 day a week performance schedule have given him plenty of time to hone his craft, and led to an excellent set to kick the night off. Though he enjoys kicking back with a fine cocktail when time permits, he is clearly passionate about getting out in front of a crowd any chance he can.

Next came DJ Hedspin who was pumped up and ready to keep the room up on their feet. The dance floor was full of energy, and even those content to sit back and enjoy one of the Hennessy signature cocktails were clearly getting a kick out of Hedspin’s groove. By the time Sonreal hit the stage the room was packed and ready for a healthy dose of his rapid-fire rhymes. Sonreal has been on a roll over the last few years and after hearing him rock the night’s crowd of just over 100, his 2013 Juno and MMVA nominations are by no means a surprise.
