XAVIER VEILHAN, A MODERN PERSPECTIVE

XAVIER VEILHAN

Xavier Veilhan was born in 1963. Currently living and working in Paris, he sees art as, “a tool for vision which must be looked through to understand our past, present, and future”. His 3D artwork, primarily in plastics, is a blend of his interests in the expression of modernity and classical sculpture. He gives his own interpretation to popular visual subjects, often playing with their settings, ranging from the familiar to the extraordinary. He's created exciting installations, notably in the Chateau de Versailles in 2009 and in Louis Vuitton centres in New York (2010) and Tokyo (2011). This year, his much anticipated Architectones project will be launched, along with a book and a documentary to complement the collection.

HENNESSY 250 TOUR COMMISSION - LA FUSÉE

La Fusée is an exciting sculpture with a significant meaning for the artist. The spatial wonder of Apollo 11, for Veilhan, is one of the most impressive and formative recent political and economic events, and enormously influential on how we perceive the space around us. He depicts this in his rocket sculpture, which is recognisable yet visibly modern; it is a slim, angular rocket rather than a model spacecraft. Above all, the artist sees this work as a reference to progress and optimism.
