Hennessy 250 Tour Press Launch

Hennessy will launch in March The Hennessy 250 Tour, a worldwide event that brings together heritage and contemporary art to celebrate Hennessy’s 250th anniversary. Announced on Thursday the 5th of February, The Hennessy 250 Tour will travel on all continents in the coming months. For this occasion, a group of journalists from all over the world was invited to Cognac to discover the layout of the Tour and get acquainted with the Maison’s unique way of making cognac.

A unique Collector Blend

The guests were welcomed at La Billarderie by Maurice Hennessy and his aunt la comtesse Irène Armand. La Billarderie is Hennessy’s first family house, bought by Richard Hennessy. This beautiful mansion surrounded by vast gardens and woods was open for the very first time to the public on this special occasion. The sun was shining brightly on Cognac’s precious vineyards as the guests flew out by helicopter to the Distillerie du Peu, where they were introduced to the process of making eaux-de-vie. They had lunch among the great copper stills of the distillery before heading to Hennessy's cooperage La Tonnellerie de la Sarrazine to attend a traditional barrel-making session. Hennessy Master Blender Yann Fillioux joined the guests in the evening at Le Chai du Fondateur (The Founder’s Cellar) to reveal the Hennessy 250 Collector Blend, a very unique limited edition he has decided to create for the 250th anniversary. This blend is made out of the finest eaux-de-vie Yann Fillioux has selected, aged and blended, throughout his 50 years career at Hennessy. An amount of 250 handmade, especially commissioned barrels of Limousin oak containing each 250 litres of the precious cognac, have been produced and will be sold throughout the world. A selection of these barrels was disposed at Le Chai du Fondateur.

A major travelling exhibition

The guests had the privilege to taste this unique blend at Le Château de Bagnolet during a singular gala dinner hosted by Bernard Peillon (Maison Hennessy chairman & CEO), Maurice Hennessy and the members of the Comité de Dégustation (Tasting Committee). The layout of the Hennessy 250 Tour was revealed during that evening. The Hennessy 250 Tour blends the concept of a major travelling exhibition with that of a cultural festival. Art curator Hervé Mikaeloff was at Bagnolet to present this unconventional, multi-facetted and multi-disciplinary project with French artist Xavier Veilhan, whose art piece is part of the exhibition. This Tour is meant to be a dialogue between patrimony and creation, tradition and innovation. And as Bernard Peillon concluded: “The idea of the anniversary is not to stop and reflect on the past. The idea is to honor the past and look forward in the future.” Undoubtedly, we can expect Hennessy to show once again its ability to craft the future in the coming months…
