In the Paint: Mexico City

In 2022, Hennessy’s "In the Paint" project traveled to Pushkin Garden, where the artist and muralist Hola Lou interpreted the spirit of the NBA on an emblematic basketball court in the Colonia Roma.

Launched in partnership with the NBA in 2021, Hennessy's inspiring "In the Paint" program is designed to inspire communities, support local artists and rehabilitate basketball courts and other recreational facilities through art and culture. Following projects in Canada, Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania, Nigeria, Barbados and Hong Kong, "In the Paint" in 2022 touched down in Mexico City, where it partnered with artist Hola Lou to renovate a court in Pushkin Garden, in the buzzy Cuauhtémoc district.

A native of the Yucatan Peninsula, Lou is known for her graphic, "abstract minimalist" style inspired by music, the diversity of her Latin roots and Caribbean influences. The high-contrast colors and large shapes she chose for Hennessy were about more than situating oneself on the court, she said.

"I wanted to break with the expected and accentuate important features like dividing lines and concentrate the flow of forms on the court, as if they were a part of the game," she said. Added Hennessy Chairman and CEO Laurent Boillot, "Hennessy and basketball are all about moments of celebration."
