Renaud de Gironde nurtures Hennessy's special relationship with local grape growers.

Renaud de Gironde maintains close relationships with about 1,700 grape-growers in the Cognac region. As the nephew of Master Blender Yann Fillioux, Renaud also plays a key role as a member of the Tasting Committee. In fact, he is present throughout the grapes' full voyage -- from vineyard to final blending and tasting. Renaud knows everything starts with soil and climate. But of course having an ideal environment for Ugni white grapes grown specially for cognac is simply not enough. "There are certain standards grape growers must uphold," he says. In this interview, he also talks about the importance of the personal touch: grape growers must be passionate about their work, and as obsessed with quality as Hennessy is.
