On the Chinese calendar, spring is when people celebrate the fresh start of a new Lunar Year. The Year of the Ox is filled with optimism, traditionally associated with confidence and talent. It is a time to stay open to new opportunities. To new flavours and colours. And to share them with friends and family. Hennessy collaborated with world-renowned artist Liu Wei to imagine what this new year might offer us.

“SPRING,” an exclusive commissioned artwork from Mr. Liu, echoes the depth of tastes of Hennessy’s cognacs. Representing a much-needed renewal for the world, the organic curves painted by Liu are an invitation to discover the highlights of a rich colour palette evoking spring’s cheerfulness and infinite possibilities for growth, an artistic view on this festive season. It is an invitation that is open to all.

Chinese New Year celebrations centre around what matters most, good friends and family. Liu Wei explains why we should stop before restarting. “The hardship of winter has passed, families gather to look forward to spring. Chinese people are hard workers; they give the impression of working nonstop. This is the one time when everything comes to a halt. Everyone stops what they’re doing to enjoy a true break. It’s a moment of freedom, and I think that there’s something about the holiday season that’s emblematic for humanity.""

Perhaps more than ever, this time will be a global reset. And a personal one. "I’m not superstitious personally, but the Chinese consider the Ox an auspicious year,” Mr. Wei shares. “With the pandemic, we are coming out of a very unusual year,” he continues. “It changed a lot for me: how I think, work, the way I look at art and the world around me. I believe one must remain hopeful looking to the future. Each year brings change and new possibilities, even in times of crisis. Focusing on new creativity gives me lots of hope for the future."

Spring’s arrival illuminates every family with spontaneous joy and new possibilities. Under the auspices of the year of the Ox, it is a time to celebrate self-esteem, free will and the openness to new possibilities, to write a brighter future. Deep and powerful, the eaux-de-vie of this Hennessy X.O cognac are aged in young barrels and marked out by their power and energy, but also by their capacity to achieve a great roundness through time.
