SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Hennessy's second sustainable development report

The Maison Hennessy has published its second sustainable development report, an opportunity to reaffirm its ambition and to share the progress of its approach to environmental and social issues.
For over 20 years, Hennessy has been committed to sustainable development. The climate emergency is pushing us to improve our environmental and social impacts, to expand our knowledge, to increase our investments and to mobilise all those involved in the production and distribution of our products.
In 2021, we continued our efforts towards sustainable viticulture, biodiversity and its regeneration. Other priorities include reducing our carbon footprint, particularly through the eco-design of our packaging and future buildings, promoting sustainable transport and reducing our energy consumption. We are also focusing on outreach, social inclusion and development through cultural programmes. When it comes to all these issues, we believe in the need to act collectively, with our employees, our partner winegrowers, our industrial partners, the various players in our sector and our customers.
The first Sustainability Report launched in 2021 was dedicated to Maison Hennessy’s ambition to foster sustainable growth stemming from its commitment to the environment and society.
Maison Hennessy is stepping up its efforts relating to living soils and biodiversity and to combating global warming throughout its products’ lifecycle.
In 2020-21, Hennessy undertook several major new initiatives. These included introducing agroforestry in its vineyards and the regeneration of forests to promote biodiversity. The company successfully switched to biogas in its distilleries, and chose a sailing cargo ship to transport its spirits between France and the United States. As part of its program to support neighboring communities, Hennessy is fostering social integration among vulnerable groups in Charente, France and in African-American, Hispanic and Asian communities in the United States.

We wholeheartedly support moderation
Hennessy is accutely aware of the individual and societal consequences of alcohol abuse. To that end, we have drawn up and signed a responsible consumption charter that all employees must be familiar with and follow scrupulously. We consider the consumption of our products responsible when intended for pleasure and in moderation, with constant care neither to lose self-control nor endanger the health or safety of oneself or others. In addition, we always promote moderate enjoyment of our cognacs, knowing it enables all to better appreciate their rarity and the know-how behind them.
Every employee is an ambassador
As employees of the Maison, we are all ambassadors of the brand and of the responsible consumption we encourage Hennessy connoisseurs to adopt. This is a cornerstone of all our communications. We have established clear guidelines for all messaging so that we always promote our philosophy that fine cognac is to be savored and sipped. We want all who enjoy Hennessy to learn more about what they are drinking. To experience the story, not just the spirit and, ultimately, to fill conversations and moments, not just glasses.

Contributing time, expertise and unwavering support.
The Maison supports various causes and organizations through social inclusion, training, sponsoring and partnership programs. Regular contributions to local communities include, for example, mentoring and outreach programs for disadvantaged situation (100 opportunities, 100 jobs); contracts for partnerships and special needs sponsorships (L'Arche en Charente), as well as a cultural program that is open to the general public. Free programming at Les Quais Ici ou Ailleurs in Cognac, for example, offers access to exhibitions and other cultural events.
